Emotional Eating + Self Control

One of the biggest gripes my client’s have is “I have no self control. I’m a big emotional eater.”

What they don’t understand is that there is NOTHING wrong with them or how they eat. The only issue here is that they don’t understand how the brain works, and are essentially fighting the inevitable.

You see, when you’re on a diet (and let me be clear here, your brain doesn’t know if you’re doing keto, paleo, weight watchers or some other label-able diet, if you see any food as good or bad, or feel there is a right or wrong choice when it comes to what to eat, well, according to your brain you’re on a diet) when you’re on a diet you are using a level of willpower.

We know that willpower as a resource is that it is FINITE. Meaning there is only so much willpower we can have before it gets depleted. And what are things that deplete willpower? Strong emotions, stressful situations, anxiety, etc.

So when you believe you are “emotionally eating”, you’ve most likely simply reached the INEVITABLE moment of willpower depletion around food.

This was, let me repeat, inevitable.

IF you are engaging in the diet mentality wagon, then you will eventually fall off that wagon.

And guess what? That’s healthy. It means that your brain is WORKING CORRECTLY.

It doesn’t mean you’re a piece of shit, have no self control, and need EVEN MORE RULES. Nope.

It actually means you’re just barking up the wrong tree, and if you want to learn how to stop feeling out of control around food, read my blog post HERE

If you're ready to seriously end your battle with food, you can read about and apply to my Private Coaching Practice here.
